Rapid population growth, persistent inflation, and ever-rising costs for essentials like food, housing, and utilities— combined with declining public food support — have driven more people in our region to seek help from Food Bank of the Rockies and our partners.

We remain committed to providing nourishing and familiar food wherever it’s needed, but our current building limits our ability to keep up. Our capital campaign will allow us to build a more efficient, purpose-built facility to better meet rising demand and support our neighbors facing food insecurity. OUR VISION IS ABOUT PEOPLE

Better Food

Our goal isn’t simply to distribute as much food as possible — it’s to nourish people with the fresh, familiar foods people want and need, and support the nutritional needs of growing children and aging adults.

Better Partnerships

We serve 800+ Hunger Relief Partners across Colorado and Wyoming. A larger, purpose-built facility will help us take an enormous burden off their shoulders so they can address the root causes of poverty and food insecurity.

Better Operations

Improved efficiencies will enable us to save more than $500,000 annually on operating costs and pass those savings on to distribute even more food – gradually scaling to 100 million pounds annually over the next few years.

Better Future

Feeding people is incredibly important, and we recognize that hunger is a symptom of a larger societal problem — one that we’re tackling in a number of ways. Expanding our workforce development program, providing meeting space for our Hunger Relief Partners, and purchasing produce from local farmers are some of the goals we can accomplish in a new facility.

HOW YOUR SUPPORT OF OUR CAPITAL CAMPAIGN WILL HELP BUILD A HUNGER-FREE FUTURE FOR OUR REGION

Our new distribution center will increase our overall food storage capacity by 67% and double our frozen storage space, allowing us to meet the nutritional and volume need for more protein expressed by of our Hunger Relief Partners and neighbors facing hunger. Additionally, a better layout and significantly more dock space will allow us to be more efficient, accept more food donations, and reduce costs.

Expanded kitchen space will enable us to quadruple the number of meals for kids in our region, to 10,000 a day.

Our new kitchen and training center will enable us to grow culinary partnerships, such as with the Auguste Escoffier Culinary School for the Arts, which provides the dual benefit of training culinary students while also providing more cooks in the kitchen to prepare meals for kids.

The Welcome Center will provide a comfortable space for our volunteers to check in and take breaks.

Volunteering space will TRIPLE in size compared to our current facility’s capacity. The additional space will allow us to sort, pack, and prepare an exponentially greater amount of food for distribution to our neighbors facing hunger.

Food Bank of the Rockies is selling its current 45th Avenue Distribution Center facility. Operations will be consolidated with our Nome St. facility and current offsite parking at our future home in Aurora, resulting in greater efficiencies and reduced operating costs.
