Governor Jared Polis issued an official proclamation declaring Tuesday, September 9, 2025, Hunger Action Day in Colorado. The proclamation was a joint effort with Food Bank of the Rockies and Feeding Colorado to raise awareness about food insecurity and inspire collective action and advocacy.

The proclamation highlights the reality that one in eight Coloradans experiences food insecurity, oftentimes facing impossible decisions between paying for essential needs and buying groceries. It also recognizes the critical role Feeding Colorado food banks and their network of Hunger Relief Partners play in helping address the growing need for food across the state.

State of Colorado Proclamation official document.“It is important that we continue to fight for protections over these invaluable resources that help fight hunger and food insecurity for all Coloradans through action, advocacy, and investment,” said Governor Polis.

Before signing the proclamation, Governor Polis toured Food Bank of the Rockies’ Western Slope Etkin Family Distribution Center in Grand Junction. During the visit, he met with a couple of the Food Bank’s local agricultural partners to learn how food banks collaborate with growers and producers to provide fresh, nutritious food to individuals and families in need.

“Food insecurity is a critical issue we’re committed to addressing, and we’re grateful to Governor Polis for shine a light on the difference we can make together,” said Erin Pulling, President & CEO of Food Bank of the Rockies. “With food insecurity at its highest level in over a decade, we’re leaning on the strength and generosity of our community more than ever. Whether it’s through monetary gifts or volunteer hours, every contribution helps answer the challenge of hunger.”

Hunger Action Day is a part of Hunger Action Month, a nationwide campaign led by Feeding America to mobilize individuals, businesses, and organizations to take action. This month, gifts made to Food Bank of the Rockies are being triple-matched, up to $50,000, by the Abram and Ray Kaplan Foundation.
