Food Bank of the Rockies needs volunteers all year long to help us with our programs. We’re excited you’ve considered us for a fun, productive activity for you or your group!

To volunteer in Denver, keep reading below. You can also learn more about volunteer opportunities at our Western Slope and Wyoming branches.

Volunteers must be at least 14 years old (accompanied by an adult) or 16 years old to volunteer on their own. Volunteers must be 18 years or older to volunteer in our kitchen. For Saturdays, prior authorization is required for younger volunteers – please contact the volunteer department for additional information.  Please note all volunteers must wear closed toe shoes (no flip flops, sandals, etc) and shirts with sleeves (long or short).

Our Volunteer Entrance & Parking have moved! Both are now located on the south side (facing I-70)!

I-70 off ramp to Havana will be closed until late January 2016
Access to Food Bank of the Rockies will be available from several detours:
 – Take Central Park north to Northfield/47th Ave; travel east on E. 47th Ave. back to Havana Street and E. 45th Ave
– Take Peoria St. exit northbound to E. 45th Avenue

Regular Volunteer Opportunities in Denver

(All opportunities take place at our main warehouse, 10700 E 45th Ave, Denver CO 80239  unless otherwise noted.)

Most opportunities are Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm and 12:30 pm – 3:30 pm.

Please note at this time we will place volunteers in the different areas as needed to ensure we are effectively fulfilling our mission. Our needs do change on a daily basis, but here are our areas listed in priority order: Distribution, USDA/CSFP, and Nutrition Network.

Pull and build orders from warehouse inventory for our member agencies. Requires the ability to repetitively lift 10-30 lb cases. This is the area we need help most!


Inspect, clean, sort and box items received through food drives and grocery rescue before they are distributed to clients via our member agencies. This area requires an attention to detail and is a low-impact/physical area (great for those with certain limitations), though it does require standing for the shift.

USDA – CSFP Box Packing:

Work in an assembly line filling boxes for the USDA’s CSFP food program. A wide variety of positions within this area are available from low impact to physical tasks. Great for team building. For groups 10 or larger.

Community Kitchen:

Help prepare meals for our Kid’s Cafe program. Work may include prepping food, cooking, cleaning, and other duties. Must be 18 for this area. Please sign up in advance since this area has very limited availability.

Nome Street:

Pull and build orders at our warehouse for agencies participating in USDA food distribution programs. This opportunity is located at 3900 Nome ST, Unit T, Denver, CO  80239. Requires the ability to repetitively lift 10-20 lbs.

Office Work:

Assist with mailings, non-solicitation phone calls, filing and/or other miscellaneous tasks. Available on a very limited basis.

Nutrition Network – After School Snacks:

Fill snack orders and assist with transporting the orders to waiting vehicles at our warehouse. Available on Tuesdays.

Nutrition Network – Totes of Hope™ Programs:

Fill our Totes of Hope™ for Children weekly (Fridays) and Totes of Hope™for Seniors (monthly). Great for small groups.

Come dressed appropriately for warehouse work. This includes wearing closed-toed shoes and shirts with sleeves (no halters or tank tops please.)

Watch for the big Food Bank of the Rockies sign and turn in our parking lot at 10700 E. 45th Ave., just north of I-70 and east of Havana, between Embassy Suites and Denver Mattress on the south side of 45th Avenue. Here’s a map of our location.

Park on the east side of our building between the Volunteer Parking signs. Doors open at 8:30 am. Plan to arrive 10 – 15 minutes prior to your scheduled shift start time. Near the ramp by dock door #1 on the northern end of the east side of the building, you’ll see a Volunteer/Agency entrance.  Come inside and follow the yellow and black striped line on the floor to the Volunteer Area with the big purple wall. There you’ll see a table where you can sign-in and create a name tag. Have a seat and we will put you to work shortly!

If you’re volunteering at Nome Street, our building is located in the southeast corner of the office complex. You can park along the south end of the parking lot and come up the stairs to our office at 3900 Nome Street, Unit T, Denver CO 80239 – Map
