Food Bank of the Rockies recently partnered with Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation (SSRC), Boys & Girls Club of Northwest Colorado, Heart of Steamboat Church and Yampa Valley Community Foundation to offer a drive-through, pop-up mobile food pantry for community members facing food insecurity in Steamboat Springs and throughout the Yampa Valley.
The food distribution served approximately 300 households and offered fresh produce, proteins, shelf-stable food items, and holiday staples.
“SSRC is deeply committed to supporting our community,” said Dave Hunter, president and chief operating officer for SSRC. “We’re proud to partner with Food Bank of the Rockies for a second year in a row to help ensure everyone has access to nutritious meals, particularly around the holidays.”
During the 2024-25 season, SSRC and Food Bank of the Rockies hosted three mobile pantries aiming to reduce the nourishment gap faced by local individuals and families. In total, enough food for more than 12,000 meals was distributed to residents last year through the mobile pantries.

The level of food insecurity across the nation and in our region is the highest we’ve seen in more than 10 years. In Routt County, 1 in 10 people experiences food insecurity. By increasing access to food resources, Food Bank of the Rockies aims to alleviate some of the pressure people may be experiencing.
“These pop-up mobile pantries help relieve pressure on local resources and address the increased demand that comes with the influx of seasonal neighbors,” says Christina Gumbiner, Western Slope Programs Manager for Food Bank of the Rockies. “Our aim is to supplement the important work of local organizations we partner with year-round and provide additional support to neighbors during the peak holiday season.”
In addition to food that is donated, Food Bank of the Rockies relies on gifts from the community to purchase food in bulk, which is then distributed to neighbors via mobile pantries as well as through our network of Hunger Relief Partners.
