Volunteer Your Time

Your time is valuable. Give a gift that’s priceless.

You can be a hunger hero

At Food Bank of the Rockies, we believe everyone deserves to thrive. If you agree, join our cause and give more than your time. Give hope.

Please note: We place volunteers in different areas because our needs change daily. Not all opportunities are available every day at every branch. We appreciate your flexibility to volunteer where you and/or your group can help us the most.

Hunger knows no season and we’d love to have you and/or your group in to volunteer during January and February when we really need the help!

Western Slope Volunteer Opportunities

Assistance is primarily needed Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm. We do not have set shifts and walk-ins are welcome. Volunteers can be 14 or older, those 14 and 15 must have an adult accompany them. Volunteers under the age of 14 require pre-authorization – please contact the volunteer department to learn more!

  • Distribution

Our distribution center serves as a location where our partner agencies (pantries, soup kitchens, etc.) can place orders for much needed food and supplies for their hunger relief programs. Volunteers help pull and build orders from warehouse inventory, ensuring that the orders are correct and ready to be picked up. This area requires an attention to detail and the ability to repetitively lift 20-35 lbs. You will get a great workout! Available for up to 6 individuals, up to 10 for corporate groups.

  • Grocery Rescue Sorting

Our sorting area is where food and other items are processed from food drives and grocery rescue pick-ups. Volunteers help inspect, clean, sort and box these items before they are distributed to clients via our partner agencies (pantries, soup kitchens, etc). This area requires an attention to detail and able to lift up to 25 lbs. Available for up to 3-4 people daily.

  • Dehydrator Room

Help us out in our Dehydrator Room – where we take the wonderful produce made available to us and make it into tasty snacks. Assistance is primarily needed in bagging up the product and clean up. We are able to take younger groups in this area with pre-approval. Available for up to 6 people daily.

  • Office Work

We occasionally need assistance with large mailings, along with some filing and other miscellaneous tasks.
Available for up to 1 person per week. Assistance especially needed October through January.

  • Nutrition Network – Distribution

Help us work with our Nutrition Network programs and their orders. It requires the ability to lift 10-20 pounds repetitively. Available for up to 2 individuals, Tuesdays & Wednesdays.

  • Nutrition Network – Site Visits

Help us with site monitoring visits. We need help monitoring our sites that distribute for our Nutrition Network program. Visits can vary according to the site’s hours of operation, but most occur late afternoon after school has been released. It also may involve some travel, with mileage reimbursed at our company rate. One monitor per site. Please contact Jennifer Gray for more information.
