Host a Food Drive
Before you decide to host a traditional food drive,
please learn about the variety of ways you can help make a difference in our community that may actually be more beneficial to everyone!
Did you know:
$1 donation becomes 4 meals?
That’s 5 pounds of food!
Did you know only 3% of the food we distribute comes from food drives? With our purchasing power and network of wholesale, retail, farm and ranch donors, we are able to do much more with a monetary donation. We are a 4-star Charity Navigator charity (highest rating) and BBB rated charity and 96 cents of every dollar we receive goes towards food distribution.
- Host a virtual food drive online. It’s easy, secure and convenient to set up your very own virtual food drive on our website! Create a competition at your office or for your team or group and see who can raise the most, all without leaving the comfort of your chair. If you’re celebrating a special event or remembering/honoring a friend or loved one, you can also set up a Personal Fundraising Page.
You can fill one barrel
for just $20 virtually!

with a virtual food drive
or in-house fund drive!
- Host an in-house fund drive. Pay-to-wear jeans to work on a special casual day, host a brown-bag day and donate the cost saved from not eating lunch out, sponsor a bake sale, chili cook-off or food-themed fundraiser, or simply set a fundraising goal. Prizes for the person/group who raises the most is always a great idea too! Cash, check or credit cards (online) accepted. Need ideas or have questions about getting your corporation/group interested and involved? Contact Buck at firstname.lastname@example.org or 303-375-5822
- Prefer to host a traditional food drive? First, find out if there is already a large food drive scheduled like 9Cares Colorado Shares (November and June) KS107.5 Food Drive (November) and the National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive (2nd Saturday in May). Donating to these large community drives is an efficient way to help FBR and our partner agencies! If you want to host your own drive, we gladly accept all non-perishable and non-food items, including diapers adn pet food. We cannot accept any baby food in glass container and discourage glass containers for other items due to intense handling and potential for breakage. One barrel holds 100 – 150 pounds of food. Visit our Frequently Asked Questions page to learn more!
Register your food drive here for tracking purposes (for all food drives) and to request barrel delivery and pickup (1,000 pound minimum donation for pickup/delivery please.) Click here for a Food Drive Barrel Image.
NOTE: For the month of December, we are full for drop offs, pick ups, and all use of our barrels. You are welcome to stop by our main facility for some boxes and posters and drop the food drive off to us when you are done!
Please allow for 3 to 5 days for processing and scheduling of your food drive prior to the requested date of drop off for the barrels.
Set a goal. Aim high but be realistic! We find that most successful food drives are from 1 day to 2 weeks long.
Consider adding a cash component to your drive. It’s often easier for people to donate their spare change (just 20 cents equals 1 pound if you’re tallying what you collect!) or contribute through a complimenting virtual food drive page you can set up and customize, free.
Promote it – you can customize an FBR Food Drive Poster to help get the word out about what you are doing.
Get your food to the Food Bank of the Rockies! Bringing your donations to our warehouse is extremely helpful and saves us at least $150 in fuel and labor costs. We are located at 10700 E. 45th Avenue, Denver CO 80239. Click here for a map. Food can be dropped off Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm. Or you can drop it off on one of our distribution Saturdays between 9:00 am and 11:30 am.
