2003 Joe Sakic Celebrity Classic

Joe Sakic and his off-the-ice teammates in the fight against childhood hunger had a record year, enabling Food Bank of the Rockies to distribute 1.2 million meals to needy children.
"Each year I am more stunned at the generosity of our sponsors and guests. Imagine the happiness it brings to a child to know that he or she is being fed due to the kindness of strangers," said Sakic.
The Sixth Annual Joe Sakic Celebrity Classic, a three-day event presented by RE/MAX International Inc., benefits Food Bank of the Rockies and its Children's Nutrition Network.
The sold-out event started off in style on August 14 at the Inverness Hotel and Golf Club. ESPN's John Buccigross welcomed the crowd and Opie Gone Bad put everyone in a celebratory mood. Some of the big scoring items from the auction were: A dinner for 10 prepared by Johnson & Wales University and a suite at an Av's game along with autographed memorabilia and one-of-a-kind trips.
NHL stars Brad Larsen, Derek Morris, and Curtis Leschyshyn, NHL Hall of Famer, Michel Goulet, and one of the greatest major league relief pitchers of all time, Goose Gossage, joined foursomes in the four-person, two-best balls tournament at Sanctuary. Colorado's gorgeous weather and scenery were on display, along with world-class golfing at the exclusive golf course created by Dave and Gail Liniger, co-founders of RE/MAX International.
Mother Nature cooperated again with perfect fishing weather at scenic Boxwood Gulch Ranch. Owners Dan and Karen Mauritz welcomed the sponsors at their private ranch, where expert guides made sure every guest had a fish tale to share. Johnson & Wales University prepared a gourmet breakfast and lunch so everyone had the energy to reel in the big ones.
"The true winners of this event are the children who will receive meals thanks to Joe's compassion and generous support of this event, year after year," said Food Bank Board Chairman, Bob Deuschle.
